Clinical child & adolescent psychology is a sub-specialty in clinical psychology that applies scientific knowledge to the delivery of psychological services to young children and adolescents within their social context. I work with children, adolescents and young adults between the ages of 4-21, and their parents.
As a child psychologist, I have an understanding of the basic psychological needs of children and adolescents. Including how their family and other social contexts influence their socio-emotional adjustment, development, mental and behavioural disorders and their health status.
Therapy can help with the following issues (and more):
- Treating psychological, cognitive, emotional, developmental, and behavioural issues.
- Trauma and loss.
- Health related problems (adjusting to new diagnosis, learning to adhere to treatment requirements, etc.).
- Stress and coping related to developmental change and transitions (new school, parental divorce and separation, etc.)
- Problems in social context (social issues with peers etc.)
